Negative Space Mani’s that are Perfect for Prom

#ManiMonday: Negative Space Mani’s that are Perfect for Prom

It’s Monday and that means another #ManiMonday! One of my favorite Spring Nail Trends is the Negative Space trend! Here are 5 great designs that will be great for your prom look! Prom is getting even closer so best to start planning your nail ideas now!

5c1511e01e7dd0fa37fd2a90f1a7a561

This first design is just darling and will look fabulous with any gown! Instead of the black you can go with any color that will match or go with your gown!

8e23ab8f07f7b83ded0ccc1afe5e709c

I love this design! You can use just about any color and you can add rhinestones or glitter!

Tip: If you want to add rhinestones and glitter and you’re getting your nails done at a salon make sure you don’t go too early if it’s your natural nails. The glitter chips easily if it’s loose and the rhinestones come loose easily as well.

When it comes to negative space nail art, there are many triangle design you can go with. There is the one above that makes a great choice for prom. Of the design is too much for you, you can do 4 of your nails solid and the design on your ring finger. You can even add some glitter to your pointer finger to add some sparkle!

Untitled2

Here is another great triangle design with the negative space! This is great if you have shorter nails since you don’t need a lot of space for the design!

Tip: When you find a design and you don’t totally like it, just change the parts you don’t like. Get creative and have fun. You don’t have to use the same colors and mix and match different designs.

I’ve been a fan of this design when Ashley Tisdale posted it on her instagram, and now here it is again with negative space and I love it even more! You can even do the design with glitter instead of a solid color to add a pop of sparkle!

Clarisse Designs Makeup Tips for How to Get Your Skin Makeup Ready for Prom

#MakeupMonday: Clarisse Designs Makeup Tips for How to Get Your Skin Makeup Ready for Prom

It’s #MakeupMonday and this week I am going to give you some tips for how to get your skin makeup ready for prom!

  1. Remove your makeup with a hot washcloth every night before you go to bed using a makeup remover wash.

I know I am guilty of not washing my makeup off every night but this is must for makeup ready skin for prom night. If a wash cloth is too hard on your skin try using it once a week or every other night. My go to makeup remover wash is Philosophy’s Purity.Another great pick is Bliss’ Lid+Lash Wash Makeup Remover.

2. Wash your skin with an acne fighting face wash after you remove your makeup.

Even if you aren’t showing signs of acne you always want to prevent them so you can feel your best the night of prom. My all time favorite face wash Neutrogena Oil-Free Stress Control. Another favorite of mine is from Philosophy called Clear Days Ahead.

Tip: Use an oil free face wash and makeup remover if you have oily skin. If you have dry skin use an oil based remover and face wash. A great option for an oil wash is from Josie Maran.

Use toner water on your skin after you wash.

This is step I never used to follow until I found Tea Tree Toner Water from LUSH. This toner helps brighten my skin making it look awake while helping to fight my acne, especially whiteheads. Toners help prep the skin for a moisturizer and takes off excess facial cleanser. LUSH is the only brand that has toner water I like Their toners are great for when you don’t want to fully wash your skin before going to bed. You can just remove your makeup and give your face a few squirts, wipe it off and hop into bed! Another great toner water I like from them is Breath of Fresh Air.

  1.  Use a moisturizer every night after you wash your skin and every morning.

Moisturizing your skin is so important. I can’t stress this enough. Even when your skin is oily you still need a moisturizer. My new favorite oil free moisturizer is from Philosophy called Clear Days Ahead™ Oil-Free Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment & Moisturizer. If you need oil in your skin try Joise Maran Argan Oil.

5. Exfoliate once a week.

Exfoliating is just as important as washing your skin because exfoliating takes off the dead skin and allows you to start with fresh skin. Sometimes exfoliating once a week can be too much so if this is the case try it every 2 weeks or once a month. My all time favorite exfoliator is from LUSH called Ocean Salt. It can be used all over your body as well!

  1. Lastly, if you have pimples DO NOT pop them!

Popping pimples might seem like a quick fix but in reality you are just spreading the bacteria. By spreading the bacteria you allow more pimples to surface as well as scarring.

Just follow these 6 tips and you will not only be makeup ready, but picture ready! Happy #MakeupMonday!

Workout Wednesday

Get A Jump Start To A Healthy Lifestyle

Exercising your body isn’t the only thing to workout. Eating healthy is just as important as working out  if not more. What we put into our bodies is what fuels us and helps our body operate. The workout you did can be completely worthless if you don’t put the right things into it. Over the next couple weeks I will give you tips on how to eat better, substitute foods for healthier choices, and some easy and quick dinner and snack recipes!

I don’t believe in diets, but I do believe in positive food choices. Eating healthy mean more whole foods and less processed foods. It eliminates artificial ingredients and chemical additives that are toxic to the body. Here are tips for better eating habits.

Tip 1 – count your meals (5-6 times a day)

Tip 2 – Lean protein! Serving sizes should be about the size of your palm. (white-meat chicken/turkey, fish, black beans, egg whites, etc)

Tip 3 – Eat your fruits and veggies. These are so important in eating healthy. They fill us up and give our bodies what they need.

Tip 4 – Avoid processed and refined foods.

Tip 5 – Never eat mindlessly.

Eating healthy isn’t just something that happens 1 or 2 times. This is a lifestyle that calls for some changes in your life, but it’s never too late to start. Here are a few that will make a difference.

  1. Drink more water – Start by setting a goal for 64 ounces a day. Investing in a good water bottle is great. By carrying it around all day, you’ll be surprised at how much more water you’ll drink.
  2. Get rid of fake food gradually – It won’t happen all at once, but by focusing on cutting out one thing every couple weeks you’ll already be progressing.
  3. Eat more fruits and veggies – Eat as much as you can and as many as you want. Try this for snack instead of chips.
  4. Read labels – if you can’t pronounce an ingredient, don’t buy it.
  5. Don’t eat late – Eating can be an act of boredom. Drink water at night or find something to do. Mind over matter.

fruitandveggies

Thank you for reading about healthy eating! I  hope you are inspired to make some changes to your eating habits. You will be sure to see more positive changes with your workouts as well. Check back next week for substitute foods for healthier choices! Until next time.

Clarisse Designs Makeup Tips for Picking Your Eye Makeup for Prom

#MakeupMonday: Clarisse Designs Makeup Tips for Picking Your Eye Makeup for Prom

This week’s #MakeupMonday is all about knowing what eye makeup to use for your prom dress!

In last week’s post I discussed how important it is to wear makeup on the night of your prom, even if you don’t wear it, because you want your face to stand out in the pictures. You want to be the one wearing the dress, not the other way around. The 3 eyeshadow looks I recommend are a Natural Eye, a Golden Smokey Eye, or a traditional Smokey Eye.

Before you chose your look you want to ask yourself a few questions first.

  1. Do you wear a lot of eye makeup on a daily basis?
  2. Are you used to seeing yourself with a lot of eye makeup?
  3. What color is your dress?

If you answered no to the first two questions I recommend going with a natural eye. So many companies have launched a natural eye palette. The big trend for this spring for eyeshadows is brown so you’ll still be right on trend. Some palettes I recommend are Stila’s Nouveau Natural Eye Shadow Palette and Too Faced Natural Eye Neutral Eye Shadow Collection.

Here is a great tutorial I put together for you guys on a simple natural eye shadow look.

If you answered no to the first question and yes to the second question and said your dress is a pastel color or a neutral color then you want to go with a golden smokey eye.

This is right on trend and won’t take away from your natural beauty. (Another good look you can try is our Fun and Flirty look from our V-day Makeup Tutorial). Note: If you have a darker colored dress but aren’t used to seeing yourself with a lot of makeup you can still do a golden smokey eye.

My two favorite pallets for a golden smokey eye are Urban Decay’s Naked Palette  and Smashbox’s Full Exposure Palette.

To get a tutorial on how to do a golden smokey eye, you can watch my video tutorial below or check out this easy step by step picture tutorial I put together.

Lastly, if you answered yes to questions 1 & 2 and you said your dress is a darker color, especially black, there are hints of black or darker colors you can go with a traditional smokey eye if a golden one isn’t your thing.

My favorite pallets to get a smokey eye are again Smashbox’s Full Exposure Palette and Kat Von D’s Interstellar Palette.

Here is great picture tutorial I put together for you guys if you want to go with a smokey eye!

Prom is only weeks away so start planning your eye makeup look soon!! A helpful tip, test out your eye makeup with your dress days or weeks in advance so you know what will make you and your dress shine the most!

Happy #MakeupMonday!!

It’s #FashionFriday and this week is all about the short prom dress! If you’re looking for something different and unique to show off your style then you want to go with a short prom dress! A shorter dress allows for so many different accessorising options where you can show your personal style! Here are some of my favorite short prom styles from Clarisse!

Clarisse Designs Short Prom Dress Style 2585 Mint

One of my favorite colors is a big trend for this Spring 2015 and that color is mint! Style 2585 comes in mint and you can go some many different routes with your accessories! When you have a pastel color like mint my favorite accessories are florals! If you don’t like heels go for some fun sparkly sneakers! Even have some fun with your makeup and use glitter liners to amp up your look!

Clarisse Designs Short Prom Dress Style 2633

When you have a dress like Style 2633  you have so many options for fun and different accessories! Because you have the colors black and white you can add pops of red. Make your dress stand out and go with booties for your shoes! Whether you want to go the flirty route or the girlie route booties are a great go to with short dresses! Don’t go with the same old clutch and find something that shows off your style like the two above! If you want to take your look even further add an ear cuff to your look! The models at Cupid Couture went with red accessories for this fun look!

Workout Wednesdays

Get Motivated

Welcome back to another Workout Wednesday. I’ve been sharing different workouts to with you the past couple of weeks. Let’s be honest, sometimes it’s difficult to have self motivation when it comes to working out. There are some things you can do though to make it easier to get up and get moving!

Create a schedule
– Instead of thinking about when you are going to work out the day of, create a schedule the week before. You’re more inclined to stick to a plan when it’s scheduled on your calendar and in your phone.

Get a partner- Making going to the gym something that you do with someone else means that you are being depended on. If you cancel a session, it isn’t just with yourself. You’ll be cancelling on someone else who expects you to be there.

partners

Pack your bag- Having your bag packed for the gym the night before makes it easy to grab and go. Whether you are going after work/school or early in the morning before your day starts, having a packed bag is one less thing that you have to do.

Have a mantra- Pick a saying that pumps you up. Sport movies usually have some good ones like “Clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose” from Friday Night Lights. Having a positive mantra that you can tell yourself repeatedly will not only motivate you, but get you to believe in what you are saying.

Mix it up- It’s easy to get comfortable with something that you like and continuing to do it. Try switching up your routines and workouts! Use the bike, treadmill, elliptical, and outside for all different types of cardio. This prevents you from getting bored of the same old routine.

eliptical  weightsbike

Track your progress- Seeing progress take place is a great way to motivate yourself! Whether you are seeking a goal in weight loss, training for an event, or trying for a team it is good to track your hard work along the way. Seeing your progress will either encourage you to keep going or motivate you to work harder and see more results.

progress

Jam out- Turn up the tunes! Listening to music is definitely encouraged. Not only can music help get you motivated to go to the gym, but it helps to keep you pumped up to drive and push through your workout. Make a playlist that gets you excited to listen to!

headphones

Join classes- If your gym offers classes, sign up! So many different types of classes are offered that you may find you really like and want to do regularly. Signing up for a class requires your accountability to be there. Classes are also nice because you just have to show up! They provide the workout and the motivation!

workoutclass

Self motivation can be difficult, but it’s mind over matter! Think about the goal you are trying to achieve and take these tips into consideration. Prom is quickly approaching, so who wouldn’t want to look their best for those pictures? Use any motivation you can and get moving! And remember, you are still lapping everyone on the couch.Go get ‘em!

Mani Tips Prom Edition: 6 Tips for Getting You Prom Mani

#ManiMonday Prom Edition: 6 Tips for Getting You Prom Mani

Prom is right around corner and will be here before you know it! Not only do you need to find a dress and a great hairstyle you need a great mani to top it all off! To make you life easy we are going to give you some great tips for your prom mani!

  1. Don’t wait till the last minute
If you wait until the last minute to get your nails done you won’t be able to get an appointment and might risk not being able to get your nails done. To insure you get an appointment plan ahead and make your nail appointment weeks in advance. Especially if you plan on going the day of prom.
  2. Plan what you’re going to get in advance
Getting your nails done at a nail salon can be very overwhelming if you don’t know what you’re going to do. Since you know what the color of your dress is you can even look up the name of the nail polish before you get there. Heck you can even bring your own nail polish if you are getting a regular mani. If you want a nail design make sure you’re going to a nail salon that can make your nail design. Going to a place that doesn’t do designs may wind up disappointing you. My go to places to look up nail designs are instagram and pinterest.
  3. Make sure your nails don’t take the attention away from your dress

    no-nails

For prom you want you and your dress to be the star of the night. You don’t want everyone so distracted by your nails that they forget about your amazing dress! Go with something simple. If you still want something that is going to catch people’s attention but not take away from your dress, go with simple colors and add some rhinestones or glitter. Here is an example of a nail design that can with Style 4513. If you don’t want a design just go with a solid color. If you’re afraid of getting color you can always go with a classic french mani or a nude shade.

    nails

  4. If you don’t like fake nails go for a gel mani instead

I see plenty of girls make the mistake of getting fake nails when they don’t like them. Fake nails are not only expensive but can be annoying if you aren’t used to them. If you going to keep up with them and keep them after prom I say go for it. But if you aren’t a fan of them go for a gel. You get to keep your natural nails and the polish lasts up to 2 weeks or more so you can still get your nails done a few days in advance.

  5. If you get a regular mani don’t go too many days in advance

My best piece of advice if you’re getting a regular mani is make your appointment months in advance and go the same day as prom if you can. Most schools give their students a half day so you would have plenty of time to get them the same day. If you can’t go the same day make your appointment for the day before. You will thank me because your nails could chip so easily if you go too many days in advance.
  6. If you wear closed toed shoes don’t waste your money on a pedicure

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a pedicure when I wore closed toe shoes to an event and then realized no one could see my toes. Save yourself the money and just save yourself a pedicure at home if you want freshly painted toes.Well ladies, those are my 6 tips for getting a mani for prom! Show us your favorite go to nail polish colors and designs for prom in the comment section below! Happy #ManiMonday!
