#MakeupMonday Clarisse Designs Makeup Tips for Picking Your Face Makeup for Prom
It’s almost time for prom and that means finding the face right makeup! This can be a tricky subject if you have never worn face makeup before or just go for the basics. And depending on the color of the dress you need a certain color blush or might want to wear a bronzer. We have you covered in this weeks #MakeupMonday.
Note: All products can be at a Sephora near you or at Sephora.com
Now before we go into when to wear a bronzer and illuminator, there are some makeup products that are a must and that is Primer.
You may or may not wear a primer on a daily basis, but for prom you want to make an exception. A primer is going to help keep your makeup looking flawless all night long! Now there are many primers to choose from so here are my top choices.

If you’re looking for something that is going to Color and Correct your skin you want a CC Primer. Tarte makes a great CC Primer that will take out any redness in your skin making it smooth and flawless.
If you want something to Balance and Brighten your skin you want a BB Primer . A BB primer acts as a few different things. A BB primer will smooth the skin and make it appear brighter as well as act as a light foundation so you get some coverage. Tarte has a great bb primer that is even oil free. This fabulous primer is called BB Tinted Treatment.
Tarte even is great if you’re looking for an animal cruelty free company.
If you want a primer to shrink those pesky pores you want to turn to Benefit Cosmetics. They have two kinds of pore shrinking primers you can try. They have their POREfessional Primer that is great for just shrinking pores and their POREfessional Agent Zero Shine that is great if you need helping with oily shinny skin.
Primer Tip: Don’t know if you need a BB, CC or pore minimizing primer? Just go with the basic primer. You will still get a great smooth canvas to work with and your makeup will last just as long.
Now were are going to talk about face makeup and finding the one that works for you.

Again, this might be something you don’t apply for your everyday makeup but on prom night you want to make an exception. You are going to be taking a lot of pictures and you want to be able to see your face without and distortion.
The rule of thumb I would go for here is that if you aren’t used to wearing makeup, go with a BB Cream. BB creams are light and don’t feel heavy on the skin and give you light coverage. If you wear makeup all the time then I would go with a Foundation. You still want to look like yourself on the night of prom so go with what you feel is more comfortable..
If you want a BB cream, Urban Decay makes 3 great BB Creams. The one I recommend is called Naked Skin Beauty Balm. This BB cream is lightweight and changes to a translucent color that balances and brightens the skin to perfection.
Looking for a full on foundation? You can either go with a Liquid Foundation from Benefit Cosmetics or a Powder Foundation from Too Faced Cosmetics.Benefit makes a great liquid foundation called Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow. This is an oil free foundation that hydrates and illuminates the skin. It has moderate coverage for a natural complexion.
Too Faced makes a great powdered foundation called Cocoa Powder Foundation. This powder is great for all skin types, cruelty free and has a great cocoa scent. You can create a medium to full coverage look without your makeup looking caked on.
Face Makeup Tip: Another tip I have for you is that if you have oily skin go for an Oil Free Liquid Foundation. Talc based foundation tends to trick the skin into making it produce more oil causing your skin to flake.
Some other great must haves are Blush and Setting Powder.

My 2 choices for blush are Tarte’s DELUXE Cheek Stain Energy or Stila’s Custom Color Blush. Both are great because they change according to your skin’s complexion.
These complexion changing blushes are a must if you have a dress that isn’t a shade of pink, coral, orange, red or is a pattern like Styles 2571 & 4520
If you don’t go for a complexion color changing blush you might be wondering what color blush to pick. If you have a dress with a pink undertone like Style 2527 go for a true pink like Tarte’s Fearless Cheek Stain.
Have a bright fuchsia dress like Style 2543? Try out Benefit’s Lolitint.
If you have coral dress like Style 2530 you want to go for a coral based blush like Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Tipsy Coral.
Have an orange dress like Style 2529 you want a blush with orange undertones like Benefit’s Cha-Cha.
Lastly, if your perfect dress is red like Style 2565 then you want a blush with a darker tint to it like Tarte’s Cheek Stain Natural Beauty in Sheer Berry Rose.
Your final must have face makeup piece is a makeup setting powder.
I tend to forget this because I’m always in a rush, but you want to apply a Makeup Setting Powder. You especially want this for prom because you want your makeup to last. This is also important if you use any liquid makeup. My go to makeup setting powder if from Too Faced and is called Primed & Poreless Powder. This can even be worn alone for a smooth poreless natural look.
Here are some optional face makeup choices for prom. The first on our list is a Concealer. This part is optional because not everyone needs a concealer. There are 2 different concealers you want. There is one that you use for under your eyes and then one to cover imperfections on the skin.
When you’re picking a cover up for under the eye you want to go with a Cream Based Concealer that is 1 to 2 shades lighter than your actual skin color. One of my favorites is Benefit’s Fake Up Concealer. It’s really great at covering those dark circles and perking up your skin for a flawless look.
When it comes to a concealer for the skin you want something that is closer to your skin tone since it is best to apply concealers after your foundation. We apply our concealer after the foundation because it just gets wiped off when you apply the foundation. A great foundation for covering imperfections is also from Benefit called Boi-ing.

Some other options you might want to try are Bronzers and Highlighters. If you are wearing a white dress such as Style 2569, you want to wear a bronzer so you don’t look washed out. If you opt for a champagne color like Style 4502 you might want to go with a bronzer as well!
Style 2569 Style 4502
If you wear a lot of makeup you can try some great Contouring Kits to bronze and highlight the skin. There are two different types you can try, Cream Based products for a defined look or you can try a Powder Contour kit for a more natural look.
A great cream based kit you can try is the Smashbox’s Step-by-Step Contour Sticks Trio. They go smooth and comes with a bronzing shade to blend with the contour shade making it perfect for your skin tone. Just remember to use a makeup setting powder when you are done.
If you are new to contouring or want a more natural contour I recommend a powder kit. Smashbox makes a great powder trio kit as well called Step-by-Step Contour Kit.
Again, this is optional and is not reccomend if you aren’t used to seeing yourself with a lot of makeup on. As I’ve mentioned before, you still want to look like you in your photos so don’t go overboard with the face makeup and bronzer.
Contour Tip: The more you contour the older you will look, so keep the contouring to a minimum to keep your look more natural.
If you still want to go for bronze skin you can try Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Bronzing Beauty Balm.
Want a Powder to get your bronze? Stila makes a great powder called Custom Color Bronze, that adjusts to your skin tone giving you a perfect all over bronze.
Bronzer Tip: Want your body to have the same glow as your face but don’t want to go the dangerous route of tanning? Try using Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Body Beauty Balm for an all over glow. You can then use any bronzing powder to get a really great tan! Just be sure to do this AFTER you put on your gown!
If you want a dewy look go for a Highlighting Powder or Illuminator.
A great highlighting powder you can try is Stila’s All Over Shimmer Duo.
A great liquid illuminator you can try out is my personal favorite called High Beam by Benefit.
Highlighting Tip: Don’t apply your highlighter all over you face. Apply under the eye, above the cheekbone and down the nose for a dewy look.
