Clarisse Designs Makeup Tips for Picking Your Face Makeup for Prom

#MakeupMonday Clarisse Designs Makeup Tips for Picking Your Face Makeup for Prom

It’s almost time for prom and that means finding the face right makeup! This can be a tricky subject if you have never worn face makeup before or just go for the basics. And depending on the color of the dress you need a certain color blush or might want to wear a bronzer. We have you covered in this weeks #MakeupMonday

Note: All products can be at a Sephora near you or at Sephora.com

Now before we go into when to wear a bronzer and illuminator, there are some makeup products that are a must and that is Primer.

You may or may not wear a primer on a daily basis, but for prom you want to make an exception. A primer is going to help keep your makeup looking flawless all night long! Now there are many primers to choose from so here are my top choices.

For those who just want a basic primer I recommend Benefit Cosmetics 15 Hour Stay Flawless Primer. This is easy to apply and will make your make stay in place even with all the dancing you will be doing.

If you’re looking for something that is going to Color and Correct your skin you want a CC Primer. Tarte makes a great CC Primer that will take out any redness in your skin making it smooth and flawless.

If you want something to Balance and Brighten your skin you want a BB Primer . A BB primer acts as a few different things. A BB primer will smooth the skin and make it appear brighter as well as act as a light foundation so you get some coverage. Tarte has a great bb primer that is even oil free. This fabulous primer is called BB Tinted Treatment.

Tarte even is great if you’re looking for an animal cruelty free company.

If you want a primer to shrink those pesky pores you want to turn to Benefit Cosmetics. They have two kinds of pore shrinking primers you can try. They have their POREfessional Primer that is great for just shrinking pores and their POREfessional Agent Zero Shine that is great if you need helping with oily shinny skin.

Primer Tip: Don’t know if you need a BB, CC or pore minimizing primer? Just go with the basic primer. You will still get a great smooth canvas to work with and your makeup will last just as long.

Now were are going to talk about face makeup and finding the one that works for you.

Again, this might be something you don’t apply for your everyday makeup but on prom night you want to make an exception. You are going to be taking a lot of pictures and you want to be able to see your face without and distortion.

The rule of thumb I would go for here is that if you aren’t used to wearing makeup, go with a BB Cream. BB creams are light and don’t feel heavy on the skin and give you light coverage.  If you wear makeup all the time then I would go with a Foundation. You still want to look like yourself on the night of prom so go with what you feel is more comfortable..

If you want  a BB cream, Urban Decay  makes 3 great BB Creams. The one I recommend is called Naked Skin Beauty Balm. This BB cream is lightweight and changes to a translucent color that balances and brightens the skin to perfection.

Looking for a full on foundation? You can either go with a Liquid Foundation from Benefit Cosmetics or a Powder Foundation from Too Faced Cosmetics.Benefit makes a great liquid foundation called Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow. This is an oil free foundation that hydrates and illuminates the skin. It has moderate coverage for a natural complexion.

Too Faced makes a great powdered foundation called Cocoa Powder Foundation. This powder is great for all skin types, cruelty free and has a great cocoa scent. You can create a medium to full coverage look without your makeup looking caked on.

Face Makeup Tip: Another tip I have for you is that if you have oily skin go for an Oil Free Liquid Foundation. Talc based foundation tends to trick the skin into making it produce more oil causing your skin to flake.

Some other great must haves are Blush  and Setting Powder.

My 2 choices for blush are Tarte’s DELUXE Cheek Stain Energy or Stila’s Custom Color Blush. Both are great because they change according to your skin’s complexion.

These complexion changing blushes are a must if you have a dress that isn’t a shade of pink, coral, orange, red or is a pattern like Styles 2571 4520

If you don’t go for a complexion color changing blush you might be wondering what color blush to pick. If you have a dress with a pink undertone like Style 2527 go for a true pink like Tarte’s Fearless Cheek Stain.

Have a bright fuchsia dress like Style 2543? Try out Benefit’s Lolitint.

If you have coral dress like Style 2530 you want to go for a coral based blush like Tarte’s Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Tipsy Coral.

Have an orange dress like Style 2529 you want a blush with orange undertones like Benefit’s Cha-Cha.

Lastly, if your perfect dress is red like Style 2565 then you want a blush with a darker tint to it like Tarte’s Cheek Stain Natural Beauty in Sheer Berry Rose.

Your final must have face makeup piece is a makeup setting powder.

I tend to forget this because I’m always in a rush, but you want to apply a Makeup Setting Powder. You especially want this for prom because you want your makeup to last. This is also important  if you use any liquid makeup. My go to makeup setting powder if from Too Faced and is called Primed & Poreless Powder. This can even be worn alone for a smooth poreless natural look.

Here are some optional face makeup choices for prom. The first on our list is a Concealer. This part is optional because not everyone needs a concealer. There are 2 different concealers you want. There is one that you use for under your eyes and then one to cover imperfections on the skin.

When you’re picking a cover up for under the eye you want to go with a Cream Based Concealer that is 1 to 2 shades lighter than your actual skin color. One of my favorites is Benefit’s Fake Up Concealer. It’s really great at covering those dark circles and perking up your skin for a flawless look.

When it comes to a concealer for the skin you want something that is closer to your skin tone since it is best to apply concealers after your foundation.  We apply our concealer after the foundation because it just gets wiped off when you apply the foundation. A great foundation for covering imperfections is also from Benefit called Boi-ing.

Some other options you might want to try are Bronzers and Highlighters. If you are wearing a white dress such as Style 2569, you want to wear a bronzer so you don’t look washed out. If you opt for a champagne color like Style 4502 you might want to go with a bronzer as well!

                                 Style 2569                                      Style 4502

If you wear a lot of makeup you can try some great Contouring Kits to bronze and highlight the skin. There are two different types you can try, Cream Based products for a defined look or you can try a Powder Contour kit for a more natural look.

A great cream based kit you can try is the Smashbox’s Step-by-Step Contour Sticks Trio. They go smooth and comes with a bronzing shade to blend with the contour shade making it perfect for your skin tone. Just remember to use a makeup setting powder when you are done.

If you are new to contouring or want a more natural contour I recommend a powder kit. Smashbox makes a great powder trio kit as well called Step-by-Step Contour Kit.

Again, this is optional and is not reccomend if you aren’t used to seeing yourself with a lot of makeup on. As I’ve mentioned before, you still want to look like you in your photos so don’t go overboard with the face makeup and bronzer.

Contour Tip: The more you contour the older you will look, so keep the contouring to a minimum to keep your look more natural.

If you still want to go for bronze skin you can try Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Bronzing Beauty Balm.

Want a Powder to get your bronze? Stila makes a great powder called Custom Color Bronze, that adjusts to your skin tone giving you a perfect all over bronze.

Bronzer Tip: Want your body to have the same glow as your face but don’t want to go the dangerous route of tanning? Try using Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Body Beauty Balm for an all over glow. You can then use any bronzing powder to get a really great tan! Just be sure to do this AFTER you put on your gown!

If you want a dewy look go for a Highlighting Powder or Illuminator.

A great highlighting powder you can try is Stila’s All Over Shimmer Duo.

A great liquid illuminator you can try out is my personal favorite called High Beam by Benefit.

Highlighting Tip: Don’t apply your highlighter all over you face. Apply under the eye, above the cheekbone and down the nose for a dewy look.

Those are all the tips I have for picking out what face makeup is right for you and your dress! Be sure to come back next week for tips on picking your eye makeup!

It allows you to show some skin without it being too much. Also comes in the color Coral.

Hair Tip: When going to for a hairstyle in this dress try an up-do so the attention isn’t taken away from the amazing keyhole opening.

2596 front 2596 back

Nothing says effortless hollywood glam more than Style #2596 in baby blue! This gown will make you feel like you’re gliding through air with its light chiffon skirt. Just pair this dress with a simple pair of earrings and a crystal bracelet and you are good to go.  This dress is so eye catching you don’t need all the glitz and glam of bulky jewelry.

2601

If you want to turn heads from a mile away while you need to check out Style #2601 in red. This dress will leave you feeling confident and ready to conquer Prom 2015. Just finish this look off with a simple bracelet or cocktail ring. The jeweled neckline is all the accessorizing you really need. Also comes in Blue Mist and Petal Pink. And at a price of $278.00 you won’t have to break the bank!

Nail Tip: When getting your nails done for this dress, stick to something neutral since the colors is vibrant. You don’t want the two fighting for attention. A great nude shade to try out is Cocktails and Coconuts from Essie.

2624 front 2624 back

If you want classic Hollywood Glamour than Style #2624 is the right match for you. This dress is a great mix of sophistication and glamour. The slit and lace back adds a touch of drama to the elegant style.

2627 front 2627 back

Style #2627 is great if you love the sophistication the color black has to offer but you want something more. This dress hugs you in all the right places and emphasizes your hourglass shape. If you don’t have an hourglass shape but want to look like you do this dress will do just that!

Undergarment Tip: Since this dress has a sheer side panel don’t wait till the last minute to find the right pair of undergarments. Buy a few different pairs and see which ones work best weeks in advance in case you run into problems.

One of the trends we are loving for Prom 2015 are champagne colored dresses and we have some great ones in our Spring 2015 Collection! This color is great and is right on trend!

4507

First on our list for a great champagne gown is Style #4507. The detail on this gown is amazing and will make you feel like you are walking down the red carpet. Candice Patton from the hit CW TV series The Flash snagged this look in ruby at our Gifting Suite at the Grammy’s and she looks AMAZING!

Makeup Tip: When it comes to makeup try out a golden smokey eyes like in one of our Clarisse Designs Makeup Tips Series (insert link). Stay away from bright lipstick colors. You want the attention to be on the dress and not your lips. Try instead one of the new shades from Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel Collection

4506 front 4506 back

Here is another of our favorite styles that is a great nude color! This fabulous nude gown is Style #4506.  The crystal details are absolutely perfect for that girl who wants a simple dress with something a little extra.  You won’t have to worry about accessorizing too much because of the fabulous neck detail on this gown. Just find a great pair of earrings and maybe a simple bracelet and you are ready!

4509

This dress not only has that great champagne color, but it has intricate black beading that takes this simple sexy gown to the next level. If you’re the kind of girl who lives by Chanel’s method of less is more, than Style #4509 is your go to gown!  If a darker color is more your thing you’re in luck because this gorgeous gown comes in black as well!

Accessories Tip: Since the beaded is so intricate stay away from a necklace. If you want to be different when it comes to finding the perfect earrings or bracelet try an antique steel that will pick up the black color from the dress and sparkle when it hits the light.

2503 front 2503 back

Last but not least on our list of fabulous dresses to try for a Hollywood Glamour look is Style #2503 in jade. This dress has everything you could want.  There is an AMAZING open back that is just breathtaking, a super sexy slit that doesn’t reveal too much, and a illusion bodice that is beyond words. Don’t worry about finding a super complicated updo with this gown. Clip your hair to the side on one side with some fabulous curls like our model and you will have the perfect Hollywood Glamour look!

Workout Wednesdays

 30 Minute Workouts

Welcome back girls! If you are anything like me, your schedule is crazy busy. Working out is still something that I try to achieve daily. This week, I want to share with you some workouts that are great for getting in cardio AND muscle toning in just 30 minutes! These quick workouts are high intensity for a shorter period of time so you can burn the same amount of calories in 30 minutes as you could in 1 hour.

Warm Up

AMRAP (As many rounds as possible)

  1. Elliptical for 400 strides
  2. 15 burpees

-Repeat for 10 minutes, record how many full rounds you do

Workout:

Do 10 reps of each exercise using kettle bell or dumbbell. I use a 20 lb kettle bell, but you can alter the weight so you can perform each exercise with proper form.

  1. Swings
  2. Squat and overhead press
  3. Rows Right
  4. Rows Left
  5. Snatch Right
  6. Snatch Left
  7. Sumo Squat
  8. Single Leg Dead lift Right
  9. Single Leg Dead lift Left
  10. Pushups without Kettlebell
  11. Russian Twist with Kettlebell

Repeat through the cycle as many times as you can in 20 minutes. See pictures below for guidance. Total workout time is 30 minutes!

For the next workout, perform each exercise for a minute. Make sure to go as hard as you can. Do this workout twice through and rest for 1 min between each 15 minute set if you need to!

Follow this next drill and work as hard as you can. When you work out for an amount of time and not reps, you can really push yourself. You’ll be tired, but that is when you know it’s working!

These are just a few workouts 30 minutes or under! These are great because they not only involve your muscles, but the timed sections require cardio as well. These workouts get your heart rate up and body in shape. Don’t spend countless hours burning the amount of calories that can be burned in this high intense shorter workout! Keep working hard and good luck girls!

Workout Wednesday

   Cardio

The search for the perfect prom dress is under way.  Maybe you’ve tried on some dresses and you found a couple that you like, but you want to tone up that body. No problem! With prom a little over 2 months away, there is plenty of time to follow a workout schedule that will have you looking your best!

If Ryan Gosling isn’t enough motivation, there are some major health benefits to running. Cardio is a great way to improve your endurance and will help keep your heart healthy. Running helps you to lose weight and feel good.  Here are the top 10 health benefits.

Running wasn’t something I enjoyed until I learned to incorporate multiple different workouts instead of doing the same run route every day. Change up your scenery and switch up your workouts! Here are workouts you can do on a treadmill, track, or basketball court.

treadmill1

track1

Workout #2 of the track workouts has some extra body weight movements. Here are some pictures to help you make sure you are doing them right!

trbball1

It is important to incorporate long distance and interval running into your workout schedule. Pick from anyone of these workouts for an interval workout.

For the next 6-8 weeks, create a schedule that works best for you. If you’re like me and your schedule is chaotic, make a master calendar. Write down your workout times into your daily plans so you can visually see and make time to do them.

Each week, pick 3 days to do a distance run and 3 days to do an interval workout. Your distance runs should be at least 3 miles or 30 minutes long. On your day “off”, you can still go for a long walk, do yoga, or enjoy a light bike ride. By sticking to this schedule, you’ll be sure to see a positive change! You’ll be feeling as good as you look! Check back next week for some great 30 minute workouts. Until next time!

Inside Look into Spring 2015 Colors

#ManiMonday: Inside Look into Spring 2015 Colors

With spring just around the corner I thought for this weeks Mani Monday I will show you some of the popular colors for the Spring 2015 season!

Tip: To make your mani dry faster try soaking your freshly done nails in a bowl of ice water. Just make sure to get the ice water ready before you start your mani. Don’t want to soak them in ice water, put them by the fan in the freezer or use the cool setting on your blow dryer!

Watercolor Blues

The first set of popular colors for Spring 2015 are watercolor blues! These blues range from light pastels, to medium teals and dark electric blues. If you like the sound of these enticing blues you can try out this nail art design that just screams watercolor blues! My picks for favorite watercolor blues are Deborah Lippmann’s Blue Orchid and Essie’s Garden Variety.

Moody Greys

Next on our popular Spring 2015 nail colors are moody greys! I just love a great gray color! For transitioning from winter to spring you can try Deborah Lippmann’s Stormy Weather. Once Spring rolls around you can try this great grey color from Essie called Petal Pushers. If you want to try out a nail design with a moody grey why not try this one featuring a moody grey from Zoya!

Sandy Browns

I just love anything that will remind of the beautiful hot sand and these browns will do just that! My picks for these sandy browns are O.P.I’s Do You Take Lei Away? From their new Hawaii collection and Essie’s Picked Perfect. This is a great nail design that you can try that incorporates this great sandy brown color.

Tip: Want your nude colors to stand out more? Try applying up to 3 coats. But make sure each coat dries all the way before applying the next coat. This will make your mani last without creating bubbles and clumps.

Girly Pastels

I don’t know about you but mints and girlie pinks are always my go to color for a mani when I can’t figure out what to do with my nails. I’m so excited that these two colors are popular again for this upcoming spring! My picks are Deborah Lippmann’s darling color called Marine and Essie’s Blossom Dandy.  This nail design couldn’t be more perfect! It incorporates mint and a girlie pink! This nail art design will be sure to help you get over those winter blues!

Citrus Brights

Colors that are always in trend during spring are citrusy brights! I’m loving the bright oranges that are being shown for this spring! My two favorites are Deborah Lippmann’s Don’t Stop Believing and O.P.I’s Aloha. These two colors just scream tropical vacation and will gear you up for the warmer weather of summer that follows spring. Above is great design for this bright color! The color and design just screams I’m ready for the summer months!

Perfect Plums

If you were loving last year’s color of the year Radiant Orchid then you are going to love that plums are staying around for another season! My top picks for perfect plums are Deborah Lippmann’s Drunkin Love and Essie’s Flowerista. I wore an Essie color very similar to Florerista to a wedding recently and it was a big hit! The design posted above is a great transitioning design from winter to spring! It incorporates a nice dark plum and the nice bright plum that is popular for spring!

Tip: To make your polish last longer apply a base coat before your nail polish and then finish it off with a top coat!

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait to try out these colors for spring! March 21st can’t come soon enough! Show us what color you’re rocking for Mani Monday!
